Fleetwood Primary School is incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students at the 2026 Wakakirri Story-Dance Festival.
On 13 August, a group of just 17 brave and talented Fleetwood students took to the stage to represent our school. Fleetwood was the smallest school competing on the night by a considerable margin, making the students’ achievements even more impressive.
Wakakirri is a national performing arts event that encourages schools to tell meaningful stories through dance, acting, music and creative movement. Our students were recognised across a number of categories, receiving the Ensemble Award for Overall Performance, Storytelling Award for Story Theme and Concept, Ensemble Award for Dancing and Acting, and the Storytelling Award for a Great Minimalist Production Style.
To cap off an incredible evening, Fleetwood was presented with the prestigious Spirit of Wakakirri Award, the major award presented on the night. This recognised not only the students’ performance, but the teamwork, encouragement, behaviour and positive spirit they demonstrated throughout the entire experience.
The success continued following the event, with Fleetwood also receiving a State Award, placing our performance among the top five Victorian entries from a competition involving 191 schools nationally.
For our first Wakakirri entry, and with such a small group of performers, this is an exceptional achievement. We are enormously proud of the confidence, commitment and teamwork demonstrated by every student involved.
A special thank you to Shenae Larkin and Katrina Vinck for the significant amount of work that went into preparing and supporting our students throughout the year, and to Chloe Chapman for her support on the day.
This was a wonderful example of Fleetwood students embracing an opportunity, supporting one another and showing that a Small School with a Big Heart camn achieve some very big things.
